Scenic drive along the Northern-Norwegian coastline
The daytrip starts in the morning from Kirkenes with a 1,5h drive to Bugøynes. The scenic drive passes by small villages and fjords following the majestic coastline. Already the drive is an experience!
Experience a King Crab Safari at sea
Once arriving to Bugøynes we start the visit with a King Crab Safari. After getting geared up into floatation suits, our safari will take you out to sea with steady and safe RIB boats. The Norwegian red king crab is one of the most important export products of Northern Norway and the local guide will tell you all about them. On the way to the crab pots we learn also about the war history of Bugøynes and Varangerfjord. We check the crab pots together and we are shown how to handle the crabs before it is our turn to prepare our own lunch! In Varangerfjord the biggest king crab ever caught has been 11,7kg, but generally the crabs that we catch are 2-3kg. If we are lucky we might also see some whales, seals and porpoises. Each trip to the sea is different and that’s what makes it exciting.
Sauna & Swimming in the Arctic Ocean
After getting back on land from the king crab tour we shift to another kind of unique experience – the Sauna by the Arctic Sea!. When you first heat yourself up in the warmth of the sauna, and then rush into the refreshing waters of the Arctic Ocean, we guarantee that you will never feel more alive. The treatment of hot and cold will leave you nothing but relaxed.
Seafood treat right out of the sea!
The day ends with King Crab lunch – the same crabs that we prepared and brought along from the sea in the morning. As fresh as it gets! The lunch is offered in the cozy and welcoming Bistroen Restaurant with bread, mayonnaise, mangosalsa and sweet and sour sauce.
Free time to explore the village
After lunch you have free time to walk around the village and admire the arctic sceneries before we depart back to Kirkenes.
